In 1968, a group of trailblazers began a journey that would redefine the Canadian scientific landscape for decades to come. Fifty years later, their original vision of a TRI-University Meson Facility has evolved beyond its acronym into TRIUMF – an internationally-recognized, multidisciplinary facility, home to cutting-edge accelerator and detector technology, and a community of innovators whose ideas lead to new discoveries. Driven by the world’s largest cyclotron and our new superconducting linear accelerator, TRIUMF has a diverse research program that studies everything from the heart of matter to the reactions in far-off stars.

Today, the lab stands as a beacon of Canadian scientific excellence. As Canada’s particle accelerator centre, TRIUMF is the nation’s portal to international collaborations and multinational projects that pursue the biggest questions in the field today. Now in its 50th year, TRIUMF continues to push the frontiers of particle and nuclear physics, materials and life sciences, and accelerator technology.

In 2018, TRIUMF celebrates 50 years of world-leading science, discovery, and innovation, right here in Canada. It is a look back at the rich history of collaboration and excellence that made the lab what it is today, and it is a look ahead to the future: to the completion of the Advanced Rare IsotopE Laboratory (ARIEL) and the Institute for Advanced Medical Isotopes (IAMI), and to the next 50 years of discovery and beyond.

As TRIUMF celebrates its community, its history, and its science, we invite you to celebrate alongside us. We hope to see you at TRIUMF Science Week 2018, held July 16-19, 2018. The week will feature a special TRIUMF 50th Anniversary Science Symposium: an opportunity to honour TRIUMF’s past, present, and future, and celebrate the innovative community that has grown the lab into the world-leading research facility it is today.
